Blind Photographers from Goa

A group of twenty six visually impaired from Goa participated in photographic workshop. They were of age between 12 to 45 years with visual impairement ranging from born blind, late blind and low vision. Here are pictures taken by them during the indoor and outdoor workshop sessions.

Kanchan Pamnani

Kanchan Pamnani is a solicitor who specializes in civil and corporate matters. The interest in photography was evident when she bought her first camera while still in school however the interest had to lie in abeyance during the period of some vision, low vision and no vision.

“The interest in photography has been rekindled when a hope was held out that the ‘No Visions’ had adequate vision to develop an interest into a hobby.”

Bhavesh was born blind. He is a student of St. Xavier’s College Mumbai, his interest in movies is reflected in the storyboard like series of pictures taken by him.

Ravi was born blind. He studied in St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and completed master degree in Social Science. Currently he is working with the National Association for the Blind (NAB) in Mumbai

Mahesh Umrrania

Mahesh Umrrania

was born with normal sight, he lost sight completely in both eye at the age of nine. He is educated in a blind school, currently he is doing diploma in Indian classical music from Bombay University. He wants to be a reputed sitar player. Mahesh has vivid memories of the visual world including colors, but he does not remember faces of people even of his patients and family members.

Raju Singh

Raju Singh was born with normal sight. His eye condition deteriorated with time and developed partial blindness at the age of five. Presently he has low vision with limited depth of field, he can see the objects like one would see through glass covered with thick grease, far the object foggier it appears. He studied in a blind school, currently working as computer instructor with a corporate. He had taken pictures before.

“ I could see the three dimensional visual world much clearly in the photo print by bring it close to my eyes. Photography helps me to see better”

Snil Bhavsar was born with normal sight and subsequently developed low sight. He is a student of the Victoria Memorial School for the Blind. He has interest in arts & crafts and he plays cricket.
